The bird club was formed over 20 years ago as a forum for birders in and around Northamptonshire. The little owl (Athene noctua) was adopted as the bird club`s emblem as it was introduced into Britain by Lord Lilford, a renowned local ornithologist in the 19th century.
The club holds meetings on the first Wednesday of each calendar month at 19:30 at Moulton Sports Complex, Pound Lane, Moulton, Northants. This is part of the Moulton School campus. Access is opposite the Telegraph pub on Pound Lane. Most indoor meetings consist of a talk and slide show, mostly about birds but we do try to have one meeting a year devoted to other wildlife.
The AGM is an opportunity to raise questions about how the club is run; make suggestions for improvements and to stand for election to the Committee. Many committee members have served for a long time and we feel new ideas and enthusiasm will keep the club moving forward. You don't have to have been a member for years, or know a great deal about birds, the key thing is to give up a little bit of time to help keep the club successful. The committee meets monthly in one of our houses and we usually have a pleasant evening discussing club and other birding matters.
The February car trip will be to North Norfolk on Sunday 24th. Contact Bob Gill for details if you intend to go. There should still be plenty of wintering birds about and often the geese flocks can be particularly good at this time of the year.
The competition took place on 9th January 2007. The photos were judged by Jeff Blincow. It was generally agreed by the membership that the standard of photography was higher than ever. It is hoped to post the winning photos on this site in the near future.
